SEPA is consulting on our proposed new 'Guidance on monitoring for heterogeneous Radium-226 sources resulting from historic luminising or waste disposal sites'.

We have produced this guidance to aid Local Authorities and contractors in undertaking what SEPA considers to be current best practice for radiological walkover surveys concerning gamma emitting radionuclides, specifically radium-226, under Part IIA and also under the Planning regime in Scotland.

Why your views matter

We are seeking views from all stakeholders on our proposed new guidance, to ensure that it adequately specifies and explains SEPA’s expectations with regard to current best practice and what would be required of a radiological walkover survey for both land in its current use (i.e. under Part IIA) and land under a change of use (i.e. under planning).

What happens next

After this 8 week consultation has closed we will review and report on the comments we have received. We will consider how to act upon those comments in revising the consultation document before publishing the final guidance.
