The River Leven Park consultation

Closed 23 Oct 2020

Opened 9 Oct 2020

Overview

Throughout this year, we’ve been asking local people, stakeholders and groups about the improvements they would like to see happen along the River Leven at Levenmouth, to enhance their enjoyment of the river and access to and along it.

We’ve looked at all the feedback received via our online surveys and social media, and listened to ideas and concerns at various community events that we have facilitated during 2020, and fed these into a draft masterplan for the River Leven Park.

We’re now in the position to share these proposals and would welcome your feedback on what you like and what could be better.

The River Leven Park will create an accessible, attractive and biodiverse public park for the local communities of Levenmouth and visitors alike. The aim is to have four gardens as areas of focus at various points along the river.

These will consist of:

  • Methil Garden, which will be a space for revealing the heritage of the river.
  • Burn Mill Garden, which will be a space for active exploration of the river.
  • Creosote Garden, which will be a space for communities to meet, grow and celebrate the river.
  • Iron Brig Garden, which will be a space for playfulness and discovery along the river.

The map below details the overall plan for the park. Our consultation goes into greater detail regarding each of the gardens and what facilities we propose for each.

Two train stations will be created as part of the re-opening of the Levenmouth rail-line at Cameron Bridge and Leven. The exact locations are currently being considered by Network Rail and will be included in our proposals when we receive confirmation.

Why your views matter

Public collaboration has always been at the heart of The Leven Programme’s approach to the regeneration of the river and its wider communities. Through this consultation, we want local people, groups, river users, visitors and stakeholders to provide their views on the River Leven Park proposals to ensure that we are delivering improvements and addressing the issues that the community have raised. Any major issues addressed will be considered and incorporated into our final plans, if it is feasible to do so.

Our final proposals and plans will be presented to a funding panel at the end of 2020. If successful, we will be awarded funding to start the detailed design stage of the path network and the features within the park.
